Lusia Harris started playing basketball at Delta College in 1972. She was a moving force on the court, standing at 6’3. As a child she was inspired by players like Wilt Chamberlan, Bill Russel, and her favorite Oscar Robinson. During Luisa’s sophomore year she led her team to the National Championship. Before attending her senior year, she became the first woman to shoot a basket for the first time in Olympic history, as she played for u.s first women’s team. As a senior she brought her team back the title of National Champions. She wanted to keep playing after graduation however, there was only and NBA team. To her surprise in 1977, when she graduated the New Orlean Jazz drafted her. Assuming it was a publicity stunt, Lusia decided not to attend.
