October 3, 1995 Mariah Carey released her fifth studio album “Daydream” The vocalist had reinvented boundaries on her sound and let go of her reserved display.
I remember when I first heard this album I couldn’t believe how angelic her voice was. It didn’t feel forced and just bent with emotion on every run she carried.
“Fantasy” is a beautiful recipe of pop soul, hip hop and a blend of “Genius Love” by Tom Tom Club sample. But her vocals is what brought this track together.
“Underneath the Stars” showed us that she didn’t always need to go over the top to immerse her sound. She completely honed in on controlling deeper tones in her vocals. Highlighting the diversity in her sound.
“Always Be My Baby” is my JAM! It instantly places me in a world of security and bliss. I have always enjoyed pop R&B songs from the 90’s.
“Long Ago” was masterful. She belted all of her tones. And I know Mariah is known for her high header vocals but she really projected those lower octaves through her chest and executed the same in “Melt Away”
She closed it out in a bold, emotional, and biographical way with “Looking In”
