“Hesitation is the kiss of death. You might hesitate for a just nanosecond, but that’s all it takes. That one small hesitation triggers a mental system that’s designed to stop you. And it happens in less than—you guessed it—five seconds.”
― Mel Robbins,
I wanted to begin this article that a quote that I have incorporated in my daily life. Waking up in the morning for work used to be such a drag for me. Honestly pressing snooze on my alarm was religious. One day I had watched a motivational video which featured Mel Robbins, that stated an analogy that till this day I will never forget. When she was in bed she did a countdown as if it was a rocket launch for NASA, and all these people were looking at her” ......... This is what I used when I began to set my alarm for 4 AM.
I literally would count from 10 and once I said 1 I would hop right out of bed. It wasn’t easy getting ready in the morning because I would have to pack my gym bag, lunch bag, and laptop bag all before heading out of the door. After 4 days of torture I thought
“what can make this morning process easier?”
- I started packing my gym bag with my uniform, and the things I needed in order to shower and head to work right after my morning workout.
- I started placing my gym clothes next to my bed so I can get dressed quickly before brushing my teeth and washing my face.
- I began to place my lock and key, headphones, into my headphone pouch and sit them next to my dresser. This would help me just put everything in my pocket quickly. These are the things I needed to have in hand as soon as I get to the gym.
- Prep my lunch the night before so that I could just grab my lunch bag in the morning. I also made my protein drink so that I can have it right after my gym session in-between getting to work. Another way to help make lunches easier is meal prepping.
- Set 3-5 alarms with motivational quotes : for example “YOU KNOW THE GOALS, LETS GO!” , “GYM BEFORE WORK BECAUSE YOU HAVE ERRANDS TO RUN” , “SUMMER IS 7473458X DAYS AWAY” ….. Practically anything that will make you double think pressing that snooze button.
The first week transitioning is a bit difficult, but after you get over that hump you will begin to automatically get up without thinking.
A positive outlook to have is that if you place your body into high stress levels at the gym before work that the rest of your day seems to be a peace of cake. Now I’m not saying overwork yourself either! Remember push yourself but don’t ignore the signs your body is giving you.
I can truly state that my days are way easier and I am happier when I head to the gym in the morning. It allows me to have more hours in the day, be at peace during my work hours, and run the endorphins I need in order to spread happiness to those around me.
