Women's History Month : Lil Kim

Lil Kim releases her debut album Hardcore in 1996. She embraced her feminism through songs like We Don’t want It and Big Mama Things by referring to men as inanimate objects, simply to be used for satisfaction. She introduced this style of braggadocio which had not been seen before by a woman in Hip Hop. Her lyrics had been raunchy, and her flow was impeccable. Although this album went double platinum in the U.S. She was getting a lot of heat from politicians and parents for “negatively effecting children.” in 1997, she appeared on The Rolonda Watts Show, and was hit with brutal criticism for her lyrics. Although it isn’t spoken about often, Lil Kim took several hits so that female rappers and women could take sexual control of their agency.
